A Word in Season

The bible is replete with verses that show the Father’s desire to speak to us and make His intentions known (1st Corinthians 2:9-10). It is both a privilege and truly our heritage as sons and daughters to tap into the different seasons of God. Hearing God has often been viewed with a certain level of mysticism. Sometimes it may seem as though only a chosen few have access to our loving Father- but this is not the case with God. He says, call unto me and I will answer (Jeremiah 33:3), my sheep listen to my voice (John 10:27), he who belongs to God hears what God says (John 8:47a), and, your ears will hear a voice behind you (Isaiah 30:21).

These verses and many more are a clear indication that the Father desires to fellowship with His children about those things dear to His heart. In a previous post, I intimated that God’s ways of speaking to us can vary depending on the context, personalities, and cultures of those who choose to listen to Him. He is not limited in His communication styles and He may use means that are familiar to us so as to get our attention. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that all such messages, be it prophecy, dreams, word of knowledge and various others, be carefully weighed up with the infallible word of God. This means that if a word does not carry the heart or intentions of God as revealed in scripture, the hearer should rightly choose to set it aside after weighing it up (1st Corinthians 14:29, 1st Thessalonians 5:20-21). I had a dream recently that I believe was a prophetic word for this particular season in God’s agenda. In this dream, I saw someone being prayed for. This individual did not have legs and was in a wheel chair. As he was being prayed for, one of his legs grew out and he now had function in that leg. However, the other leg remained crippled. I approached them and said:

Let us ALL believe that God is able to heal you completely. I and the lady who had initially prayed for him, laid hands on him and prayed until his other leg grew out. In the dream, there was a sense of combined faith rising up to do the impossible. As I pondered on the significance of the dream, a few issues stood out for me.

  • The Lord places a high value on His church being united

In the dream, the lady who prayed for the cripple was only able to achieve so much alone. God places a high value on His church being united as this is a powerful means through which He can express His love to the world. When we are disjointed, or out of sync, we cannot move in the power, love and grace that Christ intends for us to operate in (Ephesians 4:16). As the bible rightly puts it: One of you routs a thousand… (Joshua 23:10), how much more can we achieve when we are united? I believe that in these times, God is calling different parts of the body that have been working in solitude to partner with each other in order to bring healing and deliverance to the church and the world.

  • The Lord desires to heal His sons and daughters

The individual who was being prayed for in the dream seemed to be a believer. As we all began to pray, the Lord released His healing grace for this particular need. Could it be that Christ is gearing up to pour out a fresh healing anointing on His bride as we wait in prayer? I believe that God is calling His collective body to be faithful stewards of the gifts He gives us. The gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit are not a one-man-show, but are to be used to build up the body of Christ (1st Corinthians 12:7).

I cannot stress enough the importance of being a student of the word of God and weighing up every message that comes to us. In addition, it is only God who has the big picture. As we continue to thrive in the body, He reveals to us all, bits and pieces of His heart. The key is to remain plugged into God and the church.

The Bible in Ephesians 2:14 talks about Christ being our peace, having broken down walls of hostility. This hostility may look like racial, denominational, and socio-economic intolerance. However, all these differences will not matter when standing before our King one day- for all cultures, tribes and tongues will declare with one voice that Jesus Christ is Lord (Revelation 7:9-10).
